Mediation and Domestic Violence: An Introductory Course

Domestic Violence is incredibly pervasive in our society. For mediators handling cases involving intimate partners – e.g., custody, divorce, child protection, minor guardianship, etc. - mediators must understand the dynamics behind domestic violence so that they can recognize it when it is present and plan accordingly.

This online course introduces mediators to the complex dynamics of domestic violence so that they can begin to differentiate between the different types of violence that might arise in their cases. This course helps mediators recognize and understand victim and batterer behavior and how these behaviors impact the mediation process. It also explores specific tools and techniques that mediators may use when handling cases involving domestic violence to enhance safety and meaningful participation for the parties.

Eligible for 3 CLE credits in Nevada, including 2 ethics and 1 general.  (Nevada charges $3/credit for on-demand courses.  This fee is not included in the price of the course).

What People Are Saying:

Although hard to get through in many ways, this [course] was so thorough and well framed up as a gateway to this painful yet important subject for our profession. It presented a clear definition and a way to challenge and compare/contrast the other types of violence against the domestic violence definition. I have learned a lot just from your thoughtful organization of the concept and the well-placed and expertly chosen media clips. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to take this course!

Excellently done. I reviewed [Domestic Violence and Mediation: An Introductory Course] twice. The videos and exercises were so appropriate, providing excellent examples of real-life scenarios.
